Ranipuram hills is located at 750m above sea level on the Western Ghats in Kasaragod district, Kerala also known as OOty of Kerala.Its old name is Madathumala.It is at a height of around 780 m above sea level and close to the forest range of Bhagamandala.This Hill is covered with evergreen shola woods, monsoon forests and grasslands. Ranipuram is a beautiful land known for its trekking trails.Wild elephants can be seen wandering on the mountain tops here. Tourist cottages provide comfortable stay on the hills. Jeep and bus services are available from Panathady and Kanhangad in kasaragod town.The greenery during rainy season adds to its beauty. There is a huge rock on the peak around which much time is to be spent catching panoramic views.The Ranipuram forest should be declared as a wild life sanctuary by Kerala Forest Department to merge with borders of Thalakavery wild life sanctuary in Karnataka. The proposed Ranipuram Wildlife Sanctuary may protect and maintain overall biodiversity of the area in a better way.
